Visual identity
The DATA identity is a working argument: that a decolonial project can credit the knowledge it draws on, in its very form. The dot-cluster, the palette and the type are all chosen with that in mind.
Philosophy
The scattered cluster — greens fading into terracotta and maroon — is the brand's motif of exchange and agency. It is not decoration: it echoes DATA's attribution of computational traditions, where many sources sit together, each credited, none erased.
Colour palette
Extracted from the logo. The greens carry the brand; terracotta and maroon are the dot accents. Every colour is a token in tokens.css — designs reference the token, never the hex.
--data-green · #396250 — primary brand
--data-green-light · #55b57a — secondary dot
--data-terracotta · #bb563d — accent dot
--data-maroon · #894539 — accent dot
--data-ink · #21272a — primary text
--data-surface · #f2f4f8 — light fill
Typography
A serif for voice, a humanist sans for everything functional, and a neutral face for data — all self-hosted in production, with no third-party dependency.
Source Serif 4 carries display and headings; Source Sans 3 handles UI, body and buttons; Roboto is reserved for data and dashboards.
Logo
Full lockup with strapline by default; the all-white knockout on brand-green or imagery. Below 40px the strapline drops — use the Simple mark or the square Logomark. Full usage matrix in design/ASSET_USAGE.md.
Attribution framework
The identity draws on computational and design traditions from across the project's partner regions. The framework names and credits each — attribution, not appropriation. If we have mis-credited or overlooked a tradition, tell us — correcting the record is part of the work.
Tokens, logos and the full usage matrix live in the repo. Build with them, not around them.
