Access logs are rotated daily and deleted after ten days. Nothing about your visit survives beyond that.
Privacy
What this site knows about you.
Almost nothing — and that is a design decision, not an accident. This notice describes exactly what the DATA website records when you visit, how long it keeps it, and who else sees it. The short answer to that last one is: nobody.
What we collect
Server logs, and nothing else.
Like any web server, ours records each request it answers: your IP address, the date and time, the page you asked for, and the browser and referring page your device reports. That is the complete list.
We use it to keep the site running and to see if it is being attacked or abused. We do not analyse it to build a picture of you, and we never try to identify individual visitors.
What we don't do
No cookies, no tracking, no third parties.
This site sets no cookies. It runs no analytics. There are no advertising, tracking or profiling tools of any kind, and nothing here tries to follow you elsewhere.
It also makes no requests to anyone else. Fonts, styles and images are served from our own server — there is no content-delivery network, and no Google service of any kind. That means no third party learns you visited, because no third party is involved.

On our own server
The site runs on a server the project rents and administers directly, powered by renewable energy. It is not on a hyperscale cloud platform.
Only the project team
The logs are readable only by the small technical team who maintain the site. They are not shared, sold or handed to anyone else.
If you contact us
Email reaches a person.
If you write to info@decolonialdata.org, a member of the project team reads it. We keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to deal with your message and to keep a sensible record of the exchange, then we delete it.
We will not add you to any mailing list because you emailed us, and we will not pass your message on outside the project without asking you first.
The project hub
Accounts are a separate matter.
Colleagues, partners and students with an account on the project hub — our self-hosted code forge — have a different relationship with us: the hub stores an account name, an email address, and the record of contributions made under that account.
That is covered when an account is created, and anyone with an account can ask us what is held and have it removed.
Research data
This notice is not about the research.
DATA is a research project, and the environmental data gathered with partner communities is governed separately and much more carefully — with consent, community ownership and custodial handling at its centre. Nothing gathered by this website feeds into the research.
If you took part in the research, or host a sensor node, the project's data-governance commitments apply to you, not this page.
Your rights
You can ask, and we will answer.
Under UK data-protection law you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Write to us and we will respond.
