A DATA poster at UKICER 2026

DATA is presenting a poster at the UK and Ireland Computing Education Research conference (UKICER 2026) in Cambridge, 3–4 September. Its abstract is published in the ACM proceedings: “Everyone Thinks Like I Do”: Unlearning Assumptions in Decolonial Computing Education.

The poster reports early signals from the project's Collaborative Online International Learning programme, run across the UK, South Africa and China. It argues that the dispositions worth caring about — epistemic humility, contextual reflexivity, a collaborative orientation — are cultivated rather than taught, and that they showed up in and around the teaching rather than within it.

It takes its title from a second-year student, describing what changed for them while working with peers on another continent: “I learned to stop assuming everyone thinks like I do.”

The authors are Julian Brooks, Candice Moore, Jo Stansfield, Justine B. Nasejje, Pierre-Philippe Dechant and Rukia Nuermaimaiti. Jo Stansfield is attending the poster sessions for DATA.
